REUSABLE BAGS GH TRAINS STUDENTS IN UPCYCLING

On Saturday, 15th May, 2021, Reusable Bags Gh in partnership with N-Plec Foundation, an NGO, educated and trained students of Peki Senior High School and Peki Senior High Technical School on upcycling and sewing/making of reusable bags from old clothes to be used as an alternative to plastic/polythene bags as a means to reduce plastic waste and pollution in our environment.
The workshop, which took place on the campus of Peki Senior High School, was dubbed “The Studentpreneur” and had in attendance about 200 participants from both schools. Various sessions were held to educate and train the participants in areas such as Web design, Data analysis,Creative arts and Recycling.
Participants were placed into various groups to be trained by various resource persons. Mr. Bismark Osiakwa, founder of Reusable bags Gh, took some participants through the upcycling session.
During the session, he educated the students on the need to maintain a clean environment devoid of plastics. He encouraged the participants to use less plastics and more reusable materials (bag) to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all and sundry. He emphasized his points using the 7 R’s of recycling; Refuse, Reduce, Repurpose, Reuse, Recycle, Rot, Rethink.
During the session, Mr. Bismark taught participants how to create reusable bags using old clothes. He encouraged the students to use their imaginative creativity in making the bags. Participants worked freely as they explored and tapped into their creativity in creating reusable bags to promote the “SAY NO TO PLASTICS” campaign.
The workshop successfully trained students in attendance as means to contribute to the solutions of social problems in the country.
